Title:
High-redshift structure formation and the ΛCDM model

Speaker:
Michael Boylan-kolchin

Abstract:
Once the six parameters of the base ΛCDM cosmology are specified, so too is a wide variety of phenomena, from statistical properties of the cosmic microwave background to the growth of structure to the evolution of the expansion rate of the Universe. While the base ΛCDM model is in excellent agreement with the vast majority of observations, I will consider the possibility that high-redshift galaxy candidates revealed with JWST may be in tension with its predictions. Possible extensions to ΛCDM that produce more structure at high redshift also have intriguing implications for the Hubble tension. I will discuss how this might be tested in the near future, including the use of precision stellar age measurements in the local Universe.
