Title:
Nu Physics in the LCDM Desert

Speaker:
Neal Weiner

Abstract:
LCDM has a “desert” from the MeV scale down to the eV scale. Because the universe is radiation dominated in this era, the evolution of density perturbations is especially sensitive to the presence and properties of additional radiation. An eV to MeV dark sector fermion with self-interactions which mixes with SM neutrinos will naturally come into equilibrium in this era and generically after BBN, even for exponentially small mixings and couplings. Via this particle, other dark sector particles can equilibrate and then decouple from the SM. Upcoming CMB experiments and LSS surveys directly probe the scales that came inside the horizon in this era, and should provide a robust test of whether a late dark sector equilibration occurs.
