Title:
New Non-Perturbative Methods in Quantum Gravity and Beyond

Speaker:
Ying-Hsuan Lin

Abstract:
I present two new classification programs in quantum gravity, both motivated by questions surrounding the quantum nature of black holes. The first is a microstate construction program in the emblematic holographic duality involving super-Yang-Mills. The second concerns pure gravity in three spacetime dimensions and reveals a gap in our understanding of the fundamental principles of field theory. I also put things into perspective by discussing broader classification efforts in theory space that give us control over non-perturbative physics.
