Title:
Artist Salon - "Secrets from the Rehearsal Room"

Speaker:
Carey Perloff

Abstract:
Carey Perloff is a director, playwright, producer, book author and educator who served as Artistic Director of the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco for 25 years (1992 to 2018).  Carey’s career as a director in the American theater was profoundly shaped by her close collaborations with Harold Pinter and Tom Stoppard. This talk, based on her new book Pinter and Stoppard: A Director’s View, explores what she believes to be the centrality of these writers’ Central European Jewish roots to their work, and the discoveries about identity, evasion, memory, dialectic, character and theatricality that they made together in the rehearsal room.
