Possible Transition Between String Scale Black Holes and Self-gravitating Fundamental Strings

We discuss the possible transition between string scale black holes and self gravitating fundamental strings. We find evidence for a smooth transition in the heterotic string case while in the type II case they cannot be connected as classical solutions.
