Nearby cycles over general bases

Abstract:
The goal of this talk is to introduce Deligne's theory of nearby cycles over general bases as used in the work of Genestier and V. Lafforgue. In particular, we will present Orgogozo's theorem that these nearby cycles become good after modification of the base.
