The deep sea covers roughly two-thirds of Earth's surface, yet we know very little about it. Donato Giovannelli, Visitor in the Program in Interdisciplinary Studies, will lead you on a journey to the darkest, deepest places on our planet, where life thrives in extreme conditions and under crushing pressures. Take the plunge to meet alien-looking animals, witness the growth of our planet's crust on the sea floor, and explore deep-sea hydrothermal vents to learn how life on Earth may have gotten its start.
