Monodromy presentations via mirror symmetry

Abstract:
I will explain how the minimal model program of toric varieties and stacks yields presentations of mapping class groups. The relationship between these two subjects factors through mirror symmetry and provides a new picture of how to relate elementary birational maps with components of degenerations of symplectic manifolds. This is joint work with C. Diemer and L. Katzarkov.
