Introduction to Hilbert schemes on singular curves

Abstract:
Conjectures of Oblomkov, Rasmussen and Shende relate the geometry of the Hilbert schemes on singular planar curves to knot invariants. This relation provides new remarkable insights both for algebraic geometry and for knot theory. I will review the current status of the conjectures and formulate some open problems that may be accessible for graduate students.
