Topological defects in Yang-Mills with non-abelian moduli and their implications

I discuss developments of the last decade in Yang-Mills theories (including those at strong coupling) with or without supersymmetry. I focus on the progress in understanding non-Abelian dynamics, 2D-4D correspondence and various applications. In the supersymmetric case remarkable exact results ensue.
