Title:
Matrix models in Chern-Simons-matter theory

Speaker:
Miguel Tierz

Abstract:
We first explain how matrix models appear and are useful in recent work on supersymmetric gauge theories. We then show how to solve the matrix model of supersymmetric U(N) Chern-Simons theory on a three-sphere and coupled to N_f massive hypermultiplets. Standard tools of random matrix theory, such as characteristic/orthogonal polynomials and Hankel determinants, are used for analytical computations. Finally, we show that these tools are also useful to study phase transitions and in the analysis of Seiberg-like dualities of the gauge theory.
