Title:
On character sheaves

Speaker:
Roman Bezrukavnikov

Abstract:
Character sheaves is a geometric counterpart (also, a tool for computation) of irreducible characters of finite Chevalley groups, such as the group of invertible square matrices over a finite field, they were defined and studied mostly by G. Lusztig in the 80's. I will discuss some more recent approaches to their study and generalization, based on application of categorification philosophy and asymptotic geometry of the reductive group. According to Ben-Zvi and Nadler the former admits a natural description in the TQFT language. The talk is based on joint works with Finkelberg, Ostrik, Kazhdan and Varshavsky.
