Statistical Physics and Combinatorics, why now?

Abstract:
Statistical physics deals with systems of many particles. It is also called many body physics. Statistical Mechanics is more or less synomymous, but tends to be limited to a specific formalism. The leading question is connecting the interactions at the scale of the particles to the behavior at the scale of the whole system.
