Roughening and ballistic transitions in the interacting dimers

Abstract:
The model of (non-interacting) dimers on the square lattice is exactly solvable. The corresponding height function behaves as a Gaussian massless field. In a recent paper by Giuliani, Mastropietro, and Toninelli, the same property was established for weakly interacting dimers. I will explain that when the interaction parameter J grows, the model undergoes phase transitions. When J is large and positive the random surface becomes rigid. When J is large and negative the behavior is too complicated to be described here...
