Higgs bundles, T-duality, and Hodge theory

Abstract:
I will introduce Higgs bundles on algebraic varieties with a focus on some interesting Hodge theoretic questions that arise form their study and the study of their moduli spaces. Specifically in the case of curves I will discuss Hitchin's integrable system, the T-duality of the Hitchin fibers, and its implications for the Geometric Langlands Correspondence. I will also discuss briefly the functoriality question in non-abelian Hodge theory and its geometric consequences.
