Title:
Gapped Boundary Phases of Topological Insulators via Weak Coupling

Speaker:
Nathan Seiberg

Abstract:
After reviewing general properties of phases of matter we will focus on topological insulators. We will describe them as reflecting a certain anomaly. Topological insulators are characterized by having an almost trivial bulk, but their boundary is non-trivial. We will present a weakly coupled model that demonstrates that the boundary theory can be gapped and be described by an interesting topological field theory. This talk will be based on the recent paper arXiv:1602.04251.
