Title:
Galilean invariance at quantum Hall edge

Speaker:
Sergej Moroz

Abstract:
Although a quantum Hall fluid is incompressible in the bulk, at the edge it supports chiral gapless excitations that propagate along the boundary with a drift velocity. In this talk I will present an effective theory of a chiral Luttinger liquid that lives on a flat smooth boundary of a Galilean invariant quantum Hall fluid. In contrast to previous studies, Galilean invariance of the total (bulk plus edge) theory is guaranteed. I will consider electromagnetic response at the edge and will argue that an experimental measurement of the momentum- and frequency-dependent electric conductivity can provide a new means to determine the Wen-Zee “shift” and the bulk Hall viscosity.
