Title:
Calculating Matrix Coefficients for p-adic Groups

Speaker:
Ben Brubaker

Abstract:
Whittaker functions are examples of matrix coefficients arising in the subject areas related to this workshop -- physics, number theory, and representation theory of algebraic groups. After some reminders about their definition and importance, I'll explain some ways of computing similar matrix coefficients built from unipotent subgroups of algebraic groups. This will be partly a survey of available techniques and will also feature some guesses about where new examples of interest in automorphic forms might arise. Some of this is joint work with Bump and Friedberg.
