Title:
A splitting theorem for the Seiberg-Witten invariant along a non-separating hypersurface

Speaker:
Daniel Ruberman

Abstract:
I will discuss a splitting theorem for the Seiberg-Witten invariant of a 4-manifold with the homology of S^1 x S^3 that contains a non-separating rational homology sphere. This has a number of applications to questions about existence of positive scalar curvature metrics, homology cobordisms, and knot concordance. This is joint work with Jianfeng Lin and Nikolai Saveliev.
