Title:
Black Hole Horizons and Many Body Quantum Chaos

Speaker:
Herman Verlinde

Abstract:
In recent years, it has been recognized that black holes horizons exhibit dynamical characteristics identical to chaotic quantum many body systems with maximal Lyapunov exponent equal to $2\pi$ times the temperature. This insight led Kitaev to introduce a solvable quantum mechanical model consisting of N interacting Majorana fermions as a proposed holographic dual description of a two dimensional black hole. In this talk I will review the properties of this Sachdev-Ye-Kitaev model and describe how it embodies gravitational dynamics in the vicinity of a black hole horizon.
