Title:
Characterizing phases of matter by symmetries of tensor networks

Speaker:
Frank Verstraete

Abstract:
We will discuss tensor networks which describe ground states of gapped quantum many body Hamiltonians, and focus on the symmetries in the entanglement degrees of freedom. It will be demonstrated that those symmetries characterize topological phases of matter, and also lead to novel variational algorithms for the quantum many body problem.
