Thermalization and Modular Bootstrap

Abstract:
In a 2d CFT, modular invariance of the partition function fixes the entropy at high energies, leading to the famous Cardy formula. In this talk, I will apply similar logic to thermal correlators, and derive a simple, universal formula for asymptotic OPE coefficients. These asymptotics plays a role in the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis, fixing the off-diagonal, dissipative piece that controls relaxation toward equilibrium. I'll also discuss a connection to geometric entanglement.
