Title:
"BPS Semilocal strings and the Supersymmetric Gorsky-Shifman-Yung Soliton"

Speaker:
Edwin Ireson

Abstract:
Vortex strings constructed in supersymmetric theories with extra flavour degrees of freedom develop a characteristic size modulus and their constituent fields radially decay at a much slower rate. One of their applications is in the creation of a quasi-BPS GSY soliton which bears non-zero Hopf charge. This Hopf index is the result of a different homotopy group than the usual vortex number and produces "knotted field" configurations, and furthermore it affects worldsheet physics.
