Title:
Real Quadratic Rational Maps

Speaker:
John Milnor

Abstract:
A discussion of quadratic rational maps which have both real coefficients and real critical points. The moduli space for such maps is a smooth annulus. In the critically finite case, the Thurston iterated pullback algorithm can be carried out explicitly and displayed visually for arbitrary combinatorics. This is a very pleasant subject to study, since it is easy to visualize both the maps and their moduli space. Work with Araceli Bonifant and Scott Sutherland.
